I remember reading that there are no animal protection laws in China
so not sure why they'd care about the wider impact of pulse trawling to the marine ecosystem, let alone the suffering of the fish at being "tasered".

Like the use of explosives and poison, pulse fishing is technically banned in the EU. The US, China and several other countries have a ban too.
