What is going on here? People are going to start thinking atheism is a religion, and that one of its prohibitions is against competent graphic design.

The message is way too anti-theistic for my taste. Not subtle enough. And indeed, the design is hideous. People might get the impression that all atheists are artistically challenged.

:this:

I'm not going to say atheism is a religion, I know how riled up that makes people. But some atheists sure do act like it is.

Seriously though, I don't see how it equates atheism with religion? More so with free thought.

However, the text is a bit misguided or misunderstood IMO, or shows signs of coming out of an echo chamber. Who are they trying to reach? Any religious person is going to want to raise their children in their faith, simply because if they the parents believe in it, and they want the best for their children (both of which are likely), then it follows that they will teach their children what they think is right, and what they think will be in their children's best interest now and in the foreseeable future.

What religious parent is going to go "Hmm... They've got a point there. Why would I want to subject my child to the things I believe in?", when what they believe to be fact is that their child will most likely miss out on eternal life in happiness if they the parents don't bring them up in this particular religion (plus a few things they believe are positives in this life)?

That is the thing one is 'up against', if one wants to get rid of religion and/or the indoctrination of children. We often call it fairytales and 'imaginary friend' and so on, but it's not to them. They actually believe it to be true. They are not playing around with the belief like a child playing with a stolen toy they could easily put away when getting a stern look from a parent. They won't just stop believing because atheists have 'called their bluff' and 'told it like it is'.

Billboards such as this will only make atheists, and the very wishy washy, culturally religious take note I'm afraid.

Why spend all that money on billboards and not on a competent designer.

There's another design, w/ a different (even more poorly worded) message. I don't know if this one was actually put up anywhere:

Another thing is that while I was a (rather fundamentalist) Christian, I really did think I was thinking for myself. And I was; free to think for myself within the confines of the religious box I was living in, with the information I was limited to. Not in the way that I was not allowed to watch non-religious TV or read books or newspapers or magazines - we had all that. It was just that all incoming information was filtered through the belief system. So I was positive that I was thinking for myself, and not indoctrinated or brain washed.

born-again atheism...

It's simply an attack on the weak-minded. I see no difference between this attempt to get people not to believe in God and the attempt by fundamentalist religion to get people to believe in God.

If someone sees the difference do explain.

Presumably that child was asked for informed consent to have his/her picture used by "Team Atheism."

Or perhaps the parents agreed, knowing that children make for good emotional arguments....as opposed to rational, intellectual arguments.
