The 1996 Richard Dimbleby Lecture by Richard Dawkins

It seems this lecture was ultimately written up and became the book Unweaving The Rainbow.

There are apparently links of this on this page but they are now broken.
After some searching I find a mirror.

Here's a great interview with Richard Dawkins

Penn Jillettte on agnosticism vs atheism. And the final part, on how believers actually act like atheists, is a dead-on hoot.

The agnosticism bit is spot on and well explained but the "believers act like atheists" argument is shady.
A belief in deities does not entail disregard for logic and science. His argument only counts for those religious extremists who deny the existence of their own hypocritical lifestyle in the face of a belief in intervening supernatural entities. Applying common sense, logic, embracing scientific achievements and not relying on divine intervention could still leave you being a deist or some kind of other believer. And not to disrespect Penn...but speaking in a overly loud, aggressive and stomping voice doesn't make his point any more valid.

I guess I don't entirely see why someone can't admit ignorance and just believe anyway. Isn't it arguable that without some lack of knowledge belief is not possible - that faith is at some level incompatible with knowledge?
