East of Eden in The Land of Nod, if memory serves. Now, my mom used to call going to sleep "going to the land of Nod". If that's true then there's plenty of women there. Some are really friendly.

lak, kjv says that Cain went to Nod. "And" had had relations with his wife. It doesn't say explicitly that she was actually from Nod. They could have been married before or after his exile.
Evolution saddens me. In an environment where irrational thinking is protected, the disparity in the population rate of creationists vs that of rational thinkers, equates to a creationist win. Let's remove warning labels from products as an equalizer.

Now, was that his mother or his sister? :ask:

Weren't there supposed to be twin sisters? Cain and Abel each had a twin sister, they would cross marry.

What do you call a virgin in Eden? A girl who can run faster than her brother.

Where does the bible say that ? I seem to remember the opposite, the lack of female child between "Cain and Abel were born" and "Cain got married".

Saw it on a FB group, unsure as to it's origin.

Ah, found it, it's from the Genesis Rabbah, a Hebrew exigesis of the book of Genesis.

It's like people sitting around and arguing whether the Big Bad Wolf in Little Red Riding Hood is, in fact, the same Big Bad Wolf in the Three Little Pigs.

Hermit wrote:And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters. - Genesis 5:4

Your quote contradicts your post :)

And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.

2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.

4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?

10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.

11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;

12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

13 And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.

14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

15 And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

Then :
And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.

19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.

21 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.

22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.

24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

26 And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.

Then your quote :

This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:

4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

So the others sons and daughters, whose name apparently don't matter, came way after Seth. Cain's union came before Seth was born.

Tell someone who cares. I am just an atheist pointing out the apparently little-known fact that the Bible mentions Adam and Eve having had children - some of them female - in addition to Abel, Cain and Seth.

(What amuses me is that no Christian has managed to explain to me why incest was OK then, but is not now.)

Maybe it's not incest if there's hundreds of years of difference between the brother and the sister :shifty:

The usual apologetic response to this, and the explanation given by thousands of preachers the world over (is anyone aware that apologetics is constantly being used from the pulpit, in an effort to fend off the questions that ministers expect to arise in the minds of their listeners?), is comically obtuse. Having zero understanding of genetic science, they nevertheless feel perfectly at ease hand-waving their way through genetic reasons for the incest that must have produced Adam and Eve's grandchildren. It goes like this:

"Adam and Eve, y'see they were genetically pure--perfect in every way, right down to their DNA--that's right, and so along come their children, after the Fall, after Sin had entered the world through Adam and Eve's disobedience y'see, and right there is where you get yer genetic impurities gradually--ever so gradually--creeping in there, and so the DNA gets corrupted over time. Which is why today incest would be wrong y'see, 'cause them genes y'know, they get corrupted--ever so slowly corrupted until ya get to where brother and sister can't have offspring or else they come out mongoloid or retarded or like with all kinds of birth defects on account of the impurities in the DNA which cause all these problems. So incest would be wrong today because of the children coming out with birth defects and all, but at that time there was no danger of this and so incest was not wrong back then."

I don't even know what that means. I don't even understand how that would work. But everyone just nods their head in agreement, even though it's obvious he has no idea what he is talking about, and neither do any of his listeners.

This is exactly the story I was given. So what about Noah’s children fucking each other thousands of years after Adam & Eve?

Scott, an interesting question merits an interesting answer. Unfortunately all I can provide is the pulpit explanation, which is not very interesting...

Noah's sons were not committing incest; they were in fact married to women outside Noah's family. Of course, this sounds inconsistent with the story, since only Noah's immediate family was thought to fall under the protection of God due to Noah's personal righteousness, being "perfect in his generation", etc. However, the accepted doctrine here is simply that sin is not imputed to the next generation through women, but through men only, so that the grandchildren of Noah were safe.

This doctrine is assumed to hold throughout time, since Mary the mother of Jesus was able to endow her child with Humanity, with no danger of cursing him with The Sin Nature.

Yep. Boring.

And stupid.
