Whatever you think about Bill Maher, I think he nails it in this clip:

“We’re not two sides of the same coin, and you don’t get to put your unreason up on the same shelf with my reason. Your stuff has to go over there, on the shelf with Zeus and Thor and the Kraken, with the stuff that is not evidence-based, stuff that religious people never change their mind about, no matter what happens.”

Nice touch with the debaptism ceremony for Mitt Romney's dead father-in-law too.

That's how I dry my hair, what do you do? Use a blow dryer or go to the salon ?

Maher was spot on except for pineapple not belonging on pizza.

He was definitely spot on about pineapple on pizza. It's just wrong.

Nope, pineapple with ham and black olives, extra cheese, light sauce. Yummy!

His pineapple on pizza thing is about as valid as his anti-vax comments. Otherwise, he's spot on on the Ayn Rand bit. By the way, did the debaptism bit end there? Is there more to it?

I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I got to the part about debaptizing Mitt's Father-in-law.

I think he corrected himself on the anti-vax stuff didn't he? I know a lot of folks took him to task for it. I seem to remember that he changed his mind in the face of new information.

Who cares? Even if he changed his mind we should still bring up the fact he used to be against vaccines in every single thread that comes up about him. ;)

Actually now I look for it all I can find is this clarification of his position which was anyway almost entirely on the annual flu vaccine and not on all vaccinations.

I did sense a twinkle in his eye when he mentions that atheists are just as likely to have blind spots with other issues. A reference to himself perhaps? But he is right, the difference as he points out so well is that the rational are happy to change their minds.

Okay, seem Maher isn't a complete anti-vaxer:
"What I've read about what they think I'm saying is not what I've said. I'm not a germ theory denier. I believe vaccinations can work. Polio is a good example. Do I think in certain situations that inoculating Third World children against malaria or diphtheria, or whatever, is right? Of course. In a situation like that, the benefits outweigh costs. But to me living in Los Angeles? To get a flu shot? No."
(from wikipedia)

Still, does he have a point? I can't quite seem to grasp what his problem is with flue vaccines:
"Why would you let them be the ones to stick a disease into your arm? I would never get a swine flu vaccine or any vaccine. I don’t trust the government, especially with my health."

Is it just conspiracy nuttery with respect to the government?

I never get flu vaccines because I don't really care about the small risk. Maybe he is the same but was trying to find a way to justify his choice by blaming the government? (and failing)

There is a video on youtube of him spreading trying to play down how well flu vaccines work and being extremely ignorant of medicine in general. But, he hasn't said anything like that since then (AFAIK) because he got his arse handed to him. So maybe he has changed his mind and wants people to move on?

It did cut a bit short, but not by much.

Was about to post this. The piece at the start was almost as funny!
