Indeed.
Isn't she the one who supposedly had an attack of the vapours upon seeing a woman wearing a T-shirt which failed to agree with her?

Oh, is that her? Should be Silly Amy.
She battled through in every kind of tribulation,
She revelled in adventure and imagination.
She never listened to no hater, liar,
Breaking boundaries and chasing fire.
Oh, my my! Oh my, she flies!

That's her.

The idea of people like Amy Roth and Rebecca Watson being casualties of the same manufactured outrage that they themselves modeled to their adoring followers is just too delicious.

Scarlett wrote:As Fall suggested, how can these people even have conversations. One of them even admitted to making an "ableist slur" while telling the others off for ableist slurs :tehe:

I can see how they might have conversations as long as they agree with each other, but it's hard to see how they could have sustainable arguments.

'That's stupid' isn't fundamentally different from 'that's wrong', except that in the latter case, there are two basic possibilities - someone saying something wrong while knowing it's wrong (ie lying) or saying something wrong due to being too ignorant or thick to realise it is wrong or to idle to have thought sufficiently about it.
Some kind of ableist narrative could be concocted to portray any of the reasons for being wrong as being some kind of disability.

Someone overanalysing a disagreement is likely to come to the conclusion that someone disagreeing with them is implicitly suggesting one or more deficiencies on their part.
The adult way of dealing with that, at least for people who think they have a good case to put and the ability to put it, is to ignore the perceived slurs and concentrate on the argument.

The wannabe social justice warrior way appears to largely involve throwing toys out of the pram.

The offensive T-shirt worn by Harriet Hall.

Amy expresses an intelligent and mature response...

“I think one of the most hurtful things I experienced while attending TAM was Harriet Hall’s Tshirt that she wore three days in a row. I told her through tears, in the speakers’ lounge, that it was dehumanizing and gender/color blind and very hurtful to me specifically as a person who does have to deal with harassment regularly.”

Yeah, the Karma bus is busy right now. Amy Roth is having to deal with people who don't like the words on her poster, and Watson has waded in as a third party to chide someone who essentially said "Guys, don't do that."

I imagine the irony is lost on them, but perhaps some of it might seep through and create some awareness.

Episode I
The Ceramic Menace

Turmoil has engulfed the TAM
convention. The wearing of a T-shirt
has offended the dead of brain.

Hoping to resolve the matter with a
blockade of deadly, weepy-eyed tears,
Amy has stopped all ceramic sales and
flounced out of TAM vowing revenge.

While the organizers of TAM endlessly
debate this alarming nonsense and
stupidity, the Supreme Lady Becky has
secretly dispatched an elevator to TAM
with a stern warning of Guys, don’t do that!

Episode II
Attack of the Internet Clowns

There is unrest on the Internet forums.
Several hundred kissers of ass have
declared that the word stupid is ableist
and just plan not nice... O the humanity!

This separatist A + hole movement, under
the leadership of the mysterious Count
Grimalkin, has made it difficult for the
limited number of active brain cells on Skepchick
to maintain peace and order in La-La Land.

Senator Tyler, the former King of
Tu Quoque Land, has returned to the fray
and vows to make this very very clear here:
Amy and Lady Becky committed not-niceness.

Episode III
Revenge of the Hurt of Butt

War! Skepchick is crumbling under
attacks by the ruthless Count Grimalkin
There are whiney babies on both sides.
Nonsense is everywhere. Stupidity
has reached new and glorious heights.

In a stunning move, their fiendish, butt-hurt
leader, Lady Becky, has doubled down
and has told her minions that stupid
is just a word. Well, she should know!

As the A + hole Army attempts to
flee the besieged forum holding the
offensive valentine hostage, White Knights
appear everywhere and try to save the
day by being “Holier than Thou”.
