Lulz. Kirk Cameron has always been a fundamentalist evangelical christian. Talk to some of this cast mates from Growing Pains. He made demands of everyone based on his beliefs.

So, at least one of those "I used to be an atheist" christians is just a liar.

I flirted with theism. It's like the controlling boy that won't let me do anything fun and tells me that Jesus was born of a virgin, was his own father, walked on water, died and came back to life three days later and flew up to heaven to sit at his own right hand, and I'm going to hell unless I accept him as my lord and saviour and...I don't think I've quite got the hang of this...

I found when theist use this line it somehow makes them think their statements or claims are taken more seriously. When a theist says this line '' I used to be an Atheist.'' -- means I used to think for myself and I just became stupid. Not saying atheism automatically makes people smart just gives potential to people to think in more reasoned ways.

Yes.

One is atheists saying they used to be theists.

The other is theists saying they used to be atheists.

Couldn't be more different.

It's a standard apologetic trick used to establish 'credibility'. In Alister McGrath's the Dawkins Delusion, he, with all lack of subtlety, drops this in about three times in the introduction. The claim is trivial, even if it is true. We were all athiests at some point. All of us was born one.

Some of the replies to that post are funny.

"I don't believe in cabbages, but I know they exist, then I met Alice..."

Excellent.

Don't they bury people who've been dead for three days. Maybe he's Jesus, only he rested for almost a month, maybe Jesus needs a longer rest 2,000 years later.

Didn't the now murdered head of some American atheist association have a son that converted to Christianity a while back?

Statement: I used to be an atheist, but now I believe.

What I'm implying: I used to be an atheist, and I understood all the atheist arguments, but then I thought about it and saw they were wrong, now I believe. People that are still atheists therefore have not thought about it properly or are simply thick.

Fallacy: I understood all the atheist arguments.

Corrected Statement: I used to be an atheist, but now I believe, but I never understood the arguments for atheism anyway.
