A couple of paranormal/sceptical conferences this weekend

#1  Postby jerome » Sep 06, 2013 1:29 pm

Two paranormal themed conferences this weekend in the UK --

I'm talking at Seriously Strange 2013 ASSAP's conference, which will include sceptics Prof Chris French, Hayley Stevens and loads more. I asked Reece Shearsmith along as my guest and he is joining a panel as well now. In Bath, Saturday and Sunday, it's fairly cheap and rather fun -- http://www.assap.ac.uk/SeriouslyStrange/ Steven Volk of Ghostwatch fame is always worth seeing, and there is a good mix of speakers.

Also this weekend we have the SPR Conference in Swansea. Registration is closed, but if you call the office or show up with the cash I'm sure they will be pleased to see you. A lot more pricey, but a prestigious international conference. http://www.spr.ac.uk/main/civicrm/event ... et=1&id=53

Shame they clash, and probably not most peoples thing, but thought I'd mention it.

Yes; they have speakers who hold to both paranormal beliefs, and sceptical beliefs. In other words the subject matter is generally the paranormal, but speakers hold widely divergent opinions thereon.

Wish I'd known about it earlier, I'd have popped along. How did it go? Any chance of any of it ending up on YouTube.

Hey ersby, it was a good time. I think it very likely to appear at some point on the ASSAP pages -- www.assap.co.uk I went along with Reece Shearsnith, and met Lembit Opik and Stephen Volk as well, and was on a panel with Guy Lyon Playfair. Quite the star studded event! ;)

Anything strange happen?
The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.
