Another psychic fail on live TV

#1  Postby Shrunk » Jan 16, 2012 12:32 am

This was posted on Pharyngula. The best part is the open ridicule with which she is treated by two of the reporters.

It's also a bit rich of her to complain that they weren't kind to her after she had said "Duh! Duh!" to the female reporter.

Don't they all fail, live? Ive never seen a successful one yet. The mind boggles as to what she was thinking going live, and expecting a result. That's truly deluded.

Thing is, it usually works. The person says "Yes! My daughter does have a name that beings with 'M'! (forgetting that the person is supposed to be dead) And she does have a boy in her class whose name begins with 'J'! And she has started taking dancing lessons after school! That must be the 'project' you're talking about. How did you know that? You're amazing!"

Her failure was not so much in not foreseeing anything, but in not doing the usual error recovery techniques to make her misses look like hits. I suspect the fact that the reporter was so clueless about anything to do with her daughter (hope she remembers to feed her) threw her.

Someone deceased?
Someone M or J?
Ma? Mar?
Oh alive?
Husband's family?
A boyfriend?
A child?

What nonsense.

So when we die we all wander around the spirit world with big initials flashing on our metaphysical foreheads? This is what these sidekicks see?

WooooOOOoooo. "Do you know someone called Mary or John? I mean, I 'see' someone whose name starts with an M or a J. Does that mean something to you?"

What a trivial thing to have such a power, simply your name. If you change your name you are still you, why do these supposed 'spiritual' people put such a big stock on ones handle?
The problem with fantasies is you can't really insist that everyone else believes in yours, the other problem with fantasies is that most believers of fantasies eventually get around to doing exactly that.

I wonder if they actually followed thru on the plan for her to do a "reading" on Larry off-camera. If so, I hope he did the smart thing: Whenever she asks one of the "fishing" questions required of a cold reading, just look her in the eye and say, "Aren't you supposed to be the psychic? You tell me the answer."

Right. I'm sensing that somebody reading this thread, right now, knows somebody, or knows somebody who knows somebody else, with a J name. Yes, a J name. (Or G.) J or G might be the first letter, or not, of the first name... or the second name. Now, this person will be a young person. Possibly an older person. It's getting clearer. I'm sensing this is a male person...? It could be a female. I'll give you the age and gender in a moment, when you tell me the age and gender. Anyway, if this describes somebody you know or knew, or somebody possibly known to somebody else you know, then I'm sure you'll find my psychic display evidence enough of my special powers!

I dunno, but if they'd always get a reaming like this absolute failure of a psychic did, then bring 'em on I say.

I love the way some psychics correct you when you don't know what they're talking about.

"Do you know somebody with the initials M K?"

"M K? Let me think. Err, no."

"Come on. You'll find that you do know somebody with those initials."

"No, really. I can't think of anyone."

"You'll kick yourself when it comes to you later."

In other words, you're the fuckwit because they guessed incorrectly.

Yeah, kind of like here, where she asked if the women's daughter had a boyfriend, before she was told the girl was only 6 yrs old.

"Well, I had a boyfriend when I was five. Didn't you?"

"No."

My favourite was, "I didn't know how old your daughter was." Of course you didn't. That's the fucking point.

Also, see 0:42. "Is it a J or an M? ... Is it a male or female? I don't know." Later on, she claims to have "picked up" on the fact that this was a girl called Mary.
