I've seen your posts ever since your days on RDF as lifegazer with your comparisons (usually explaining how you were better and cleverer than) of yourself to Jesus, Einstein, Newton, Nietzsche and others. Back in the days where you claimed to be "storming the castle" of rationality or whatever the fuck it was.

That was probably about 10 years ago now, or pushing it. And you did not cover the basics then either. People who were plenty knowledgeable about philosophy like Jerome whatshisface that used to post there frequently schooled you and you refused to learn. In fact you had a wholly derisory attitude towards philosophy as a discipline, calling people who studied it academically parrots and belittling any value in the philosophies they studied.

So, you certainly don't have 20 years of covering the basics, for the last 10 years you haven't covered anything basic, intermediate or advanced. We've just had successions of woeful misunderstandings of basic science and philosophy such as:

http://www.rationalskepticism.org/philo ... 42083.html
Isaac Newton inadvertently proved the world does not exist

Which contradict your own beliefs (that physical observation cannot undercut a metaphysical belief) as well as represent significant failings in basic reasoning, basic logic, and comprehension of science even when explained very clearly and at a low level (that SR replaces the invariant space and time intervals of Galilean relativity with an invariant spacetime interval).

The majority of the 10 years was probably devoted to exchanges which largely consisted of your old favourite mantra (which at some point seems to have been supplanted by the weird badger fixation) that "observed X is not X itself" and claiming that nobody else gets this point, and then ignoring the dozens of replies saying that "that the observation of X is not X itself does not mean there is no X", which was inevitably what you were assuming.

I like SAM. I'd even buy him a pint. I'm just done with teaching kids how to swim, as stated. I have no desire repeating the next 20 years talking the basics.

Does this mean you're finally going to stop your twenty year experiment of acting like a tragically clueless anus?

While clever retorts like this could be an incredibly subtle indication of deeper wit, I'd like to point out that if you instead spent this wasted time addressing the basics, you might actually find yourself beyond them by now in a real, observable way. But hey, why do that when you can dispense Peewee Herman-esque jewels like this to a bunch of people who aren't at all convinced you have the foggiest clue what you're on about?

Is it a clever retort? I actually don't get it. It had all the look of a superficial imitation of a witty retort that somehow failed to me. I'd have got "to be an anus I'd have to descend to your level", but as it's written it's the anus that does the descending.

I'm unfamiliar with descending anuses and despite being mildly curious about what they do or where they do it (having first double checked that the anus is the sphincter, rather than the rectum in general, ruling out prolapse) having read an article this morning about how google keeps a record of every single search you ever do, I'm suddenly concerned that searching "descending anuses" is a distinctly poor idea.

Yes, this is how my mind works and I normally keep these thoughts to myself, but I'm in an inappropriately "sharing" mood this morning. :dunno:

Reminds me of the famous song about Brock the magic badger, who lived by the freezer.

No, but sometimes it's better to use the carrot than the stick. Preferably away from any descending anuses.

I have nothing to say at this point, except that if fallible gets a formal warning for calling me an anus, I'll make sure that the mods' workload here increases over the next few weeks.

What threat is this? I've merely informed them to keep their diaries free if they intend to give she who calls me an anus a formal warning. Where you come from, that may constitute a 'threat'. Where I come from, people have been shot in my local pub for being utterly dire singers. I'm not even joking. Hence my aversion to karaoke.

I don't want people to get formal warnings for calling me names. I think the mods/FUA should respect the rights of individuals not to be offended by anything other members say about them. I will defend this to the hilt in a very long feedback thread, if I must.

Everything in moderation (no pun intended); even pluralism. If people don't want to be subject to certain elements of the FUA they can attempt to have it amended or post elsewhere...or perhaps allowing people to opt out of the "nobody's allowed to personally (verbally: this ain't Mosside ; )) attack me" clause of the FUA, and perhaps just that rule, wouldn't be pluralism overload...interesting idea actually....it could perhaps be indicated in the sig of such posters that they can be personally verbally attacked...that wouldn't require any software amendments at least...
