OK one last question

#1  Postby asdfjkl » Jan 12, 2012 12:19 am

OK how could you hypothesize about anything non-self-evident.
self-evident means you have direct access to something.
So if you get access to something non-self-evident wouldn't it then make it self-evident?

Ask questions people are interested in.
Why does Yahweh uses the same verification system as charlatans, con-men and magicians?

Engage with what people are saying to you. Answer their questions directly and fully.

Capitalising and at least an attempt at proper spelling, grammar and punctuation helps too. This isn't a text session or a teenage message board.

Also, try and give examples as your questions are pretty damn vague.

OK how could you hypothesize about anything non-self-evident.

Self evident doesn't mean something you have direct access too. Self evident means something which is self evident, something which is obvious to one's self. And as such it is a entirely relative term.

You can hypothesise on anything, weather it is obvious to you or not.

You started the problem of induction thread, which is now on page 20 and contains some damned interesting posts. What's lacking in the answers there?
It's got nothing to do with your Vorsprung durch Technik, you know, and it's not about you joggers who go round and round and round.

To be fair, he asked about induction in relation to solipsism; but everybody ignored that - except me, of course. :)

What is self-evident? From my own perspective, nothing is except for the base sensations which are then discerned to be 'things'. In other words, it's not self-evident that things exist or that you are directly observing things.

"How could you hypothesize about anything non-self-evident."

Ask yourself this tomorrow morning when you decide to leave your house using the front door, instead of jumping through a glass window, or leaping off the rooftop.

Is punctuation self evident? Evidently not.

Look. Humans are just apes. We don't have access to any "perfect/self evident" 100% certainty. We are just animals with a body that has evolved with one goal in mind, reproduction.

You are no more special than a dog or cat. Do they have access to self evident truths? No... Well why do you think we do?

We are just running around this earth responding to the environment around us like all the other creatures. Our brains are programmed to respond to the environment in a way which helps us survive and pass on our genes. People without this ability die out and don't pass on their genes.

Does this confuse you or something?

Perfect, or "self evident" knowledge is a just a made up concept. You didn't come to the conclusion that it exists through observation, you are just pretending it exists and asking us how we make decisions without consulting it.

If you can't grasp this information or refute what I've had to say. Stop posting here.

Tell me something: Why is being sure of something such a big deal? Does it, um, bend the spoon?

Being 'sure of something' is pretty subjective when you get right down to it. What's really valuable is to get lots of other people to (say they) agree with you, even if it's bullshit, which is how religion works.

The difficulty is in getting other people to agree with you that something is self-evident.

Usually what people say is "It is evident to me that you are screwed." Even if it was evident to you that you are screwed, it still would not be self-evident that you are screwed.

Yay real words!

We know our thoughts correspond to reality because most of us gave up on solipsism when we were 12.
