Equinox and daylight

#1  Postby felltoearth » Feb 25, 2018 5:26 pm

So my Veloclock app is telling me that we will be receiving 12hours and 9 minutes of daylight on the Spring equinox, equivalent to about three days of change in daylight hours for my latitude.
I would expect that the number of daylight hours would be closer to an even 12 give or take a minute or two.
What gives?

From Wiki:

On the day of an equinox, daytime and nighttime are of approximately equal duration all over the planet. They are not exactly equal, however, due to the angular size of the Sun and atmospheric refraction. The word is derived from the Latin aequinoctium, from aequus (equal) and nox (genitive noctis) (night).
