Not much more to say than the title really.

It's hard to think of people who have made such a significant invidual contribution to physics in recent years as SH. Although others had diddled around with the field a bit, it was SH's "black holes radiate" result which set the field of QFT in Curved Space on fire. Results which cut across diverse fields are the big ones. This time it was relativity, quantum theory and thermodynamics. Absolutely amazing !

Created singularity theorems, brought Wick rotation to the masses, kicked off quantum cosmology...the list goes on. And to do this whilst your body is falling apart.

Cheers Stephen.

Wow! I remember some "predictions" that were made after he was diagnosed, and some folks were not too confident he would make it to his 40's. Well done Stephen, and thanks for sharing your brain with us. Writing books and communicating ideas is not a trivial exercise.
DBD is a fun username. I do not imagine myself as a reincarnation of T.H. Huxley, and with respect, neither should you.

The BBC asked people to submit questions to Prof. Hawking, so I added mine on a punt. As luck would have it, mine was one of the few chosen for an answer.

Here is the brief interview, with my part starting shortly before the 3 minute mark.

Good question. I wish I understood M theory, or at least as much of M theory that is agreed upon today.

I understand as much of it as the next idiot, but I've never been able to imagine how we might observe/test universes that are not a part of our universe. It seems impossible by definition, but the Prof seems confident that the data are hiding somewhere in the CMB radiation.

no need to indulge in blasphemy here.
