When Toronto opened their first subway in the 50s they used a version of Futura carved into beautiful Vitralite panels. Eventually the Vitralite turned into crappy tiling and enameled metal and the typeface became helvetica because thats what at architects had in their crappy 90s PC based CAD systems.
This is being corrected now with the original face being recently digitized and some issues corrected.
