Going way back to the OP, I'd agree that humans are capable of some pretty cool shit when they aren't pre-occupied with fucking each other over one dumb thing or another, and that voting for governments that foster a culture of not-fucking-each-other-over is a Good Thing that perhaps isn't given the weight it deserves (as opposed to "the economy!1!", for example, although obviously economic prosperity is not unrelated to the need/desire to fuck others over).
