And why ask Dawkins what he thinks of Iranian theocracy.

Why not ask actual Iranians?

You can't seriously claim that this film provides a representative account of what Iranians think when it only covers the views of supporters of a defeated presidential candidate. Opinion polls suggest that the majorty of Iranians support a religious state.

Well, I also know the opinions of my Iranian friends. They love their country but hate the cunts running it.
But you go on believing everyone loves theocratic tyranny.

The latest poll on the Iranian people is available here: http://www.cissm.umd.edu/sites/default/ ... Final2.pdf

An interresing question was posed as to the meaning of the re-election of President Rouhani (whom you claim is a tyrant). According to the findings, Iranians "disagree with the assertion that his re-election means most people disapprove of the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, or that they want religion to play a lesser role in policy making."

You need to realise that Iranians themselves put the current political system in power by referendum following a popular revolution.

What's all this about Iranians having a voice?

The good, kind people who work here have the final say about how anyone anywhere around the globe shall be governed.

All in a day's work.

I recall when even people who disagreed with the dictatorship in Iran had to hide their faces even while they were in the USA for fear of what SAVAK* might do to them or their families.

* SAVAK:

SAVAK (Sazeman-i Ettelaat va Amniyat-i Keshvar) was the National Organization for Intelligence and Security. Formed under the guidance of United States and Israeli intelligence officers in 1957, SAVAK developed into an effective secret agency.

...

SAVAK increasingly to symbolized the Shah's rule from 1963-79, a period of corruption in the royal family, one-party rule, the torture and execution of thousands of political prisoners, suppression of dissent, and alienation of the religious masses. The United States reinforced its position as the Shah's protector and supporter, sowing the seeds of the anti-Americanism that later manifested itself in the revolution against the monarchy.

Was that fear of what SAVAK operatives would do to them inside the USA or to their families inside Iran? It's pretty sad that the US felt the need to support dictatorships just to counterbalance the perceived threat from the Soviet Union.

SAVAK could take it out on the family at home, and could conceivably do something to the protesters here in the US.
