I think Lord of the Rings was the inspiration for Game of Thrones.

I think Martin would claim that LOTR was the inspiration for the whole genre. But he also pointed to the Wars of the Roses as inspiration, and I enjoyed Colin Iggulden's recent saga. I'm going to suggest that Robert Baratheon is modelled on Edward IV, that Stannis is Richard III, and Jon Snow is Henry Tudor.

Yes, I read that too. It's just that watching the first two movies yesterday, the Elfish language, the Elves themselves made me think of Targaryens, just parallels I was seeing in the characters.

Tudor was kinda like an outsider so maybe the NK is the Henry Tudor of Westeros.

If Jon Snow is derived from Tudor and he and Dany have a daughter… derived from Elizabeth I… leading to the golden age of Westeros…

Perfect lead in for this, I hope they're not going to just keep spewing out shit for decades, diluting whatever quality the underlying material my have had. [haven't watched yet, just started it, the title says enough]

Nice job:

Love how they managed to make John look even more constipated than he does in the show.
