Given that the key ground for divorce under the Family Law Act 1976 (Cth) is that the marriage must be "irretrievably broken down" I doubt this tedious couple would able to convince the Federal Circuit Court to grant a dissolution.

If you look closely, you can see he's eyeing a crocodile that's swerving through the crowd of reporters nearby. It's the only way to explain the abrupt turn his speech takes.

The "No" campaign seem to have realized early on that they didn't have any good arguments, so I guess that meant that they felt that they had to be really creative with the bad ones. They also spent an inordinate amount of time conflating it with every other issue under the sun to deflect from their lack of arguments.

It's not untenable in the slightest to divorce, thus removing the state as a party to your marriage, and come to a private contractual arrangement regarding property and inheritance rights. For years, fuckwits like Jensen argued that because that private legal route was available to same-sex couples, state recognition of same-sex marriages was not needed.
