If social issues are taking a back seat it is largely because secessionists, including many ERC members, argue that until Catalonia is independent there is no point in pushing for social change because Madrid simply uses the courts to overrule the Catalan parliament when it makes decisions that are not to its liking.

“Catalonia voted to guarantee that the poorest families wouldn’t have to go without heat and electricity and the constitutional court overruled it,” says Rosa Marcús, a schoolteacher in Sitges.
“It approved imposing taxes on empty properties and turning them over to public housing and it was overruled.
It voted to ban fracking and it was overruled, it banned bullfighting, the same thing happened. There’s a long list.”

Even in Ontario or other provinces those would be within the control of the province ...claiming Spain is "giving" Catalonia autonomy and then pulling shite like that just shows up the lie

Interesting perspective on the election

The stange thing is, I don't find it strange that the puffed up toad, otherwise known as "the pension King" is now working for his boss, Putin. Yet another pension. Not strange really that Putin and his bots, spent a lot of robot hours, influencing all politics across the world. Trump loves Putin, The toad , When he was the head honcho in Scotland, gave Trump permission to destroy an area of national interest, to build his golf course. Yep. they fell out, its the Nationalist way. They all fall out, eventually, with disastrous results, for the rest of us.

Meanwhile, Holyrood has refused consent for the EU Withdrawal Bill, which opens up the possibility of a constitutional crisis ...

The Scottish Parliament has formally rejected the UK Government’s crucial Brexit legislation, setting the country on a path towards uncharted constitutional territory.

The decision by MSPs to refuse to give their consent to the EU Withdrawal Bill raises the prospect of Holyrood being overruled by Westminster for the first time in the history of devolution.

Minutes after the vote, the Scottish Secretary indicated that the UK Government would press ahead with the legislation despite a lack of consent from Scotland, saying: “That’s what we intend to do.”

Labour, the Greens and the Liberal Democrats all united behind the SNP Government’s motion withholding Parliament’s consent to the Bill, which was passed by 93 votes to 30.

...

The Scottish Government has described the Withdrawal Bill, which will repatriate thousands of laws from Brussels back to the UK, as a “power grab” that undermines devolution.

Its key objection is that 24 powers that would usually be devolved will initially be returned to Westminster instead of Edinburgh, while UK ministers work out common frameworks.

Guess Scotland is about to live in interesting times ... and any failure on May's part to pay attention to this risks reviving the calls for independence ...

There's no possibility of a constitutional crisis. It'll just get a bit politically awkward for awhile.

Prediction time. (this isnt really mine, but an amalgamation of a few journos predictions).

- Boris wins. Obviously.
- Boris despite appearances is not daft. He knows there's no renegotiation, and the EU woudnt negotiate with Boris of all of them.
- He shrugs, says he tried, and calls a GE, after agreeing with Farage (not the brexit party, as there is no party in reality) that they will support him on a no deal ticket
- Labour havent decided what the FUCKING FUCK to do yet, by the time the polls open
- Tory landslide
- No deal 31st oct, Boris is happy, he's in nr10.
- The rest of us are fucked.
- 1st of November, the renegotiations start, and the EU make it fucking clear they won't be agreeing anything very quickly.

The end.

(Scottish independence referendum)

Actually it's *really* bad.

The ideal scenario for Scottish independence is not rupture and disaster, it's economic success.

Having a rest of UK outside the EU, with Scotland going back in (and we would/will), presents the same problems with borders that NI/Republic have. Just without the bombs and guns.

The best scenario now would be a new referendum and all of us stay in, and the Scotland leaves UK in a few years.

---

Well, ideal ... was the first Scottish referendum successful you'd be facing exactly the not ideal scenario now. So this is something to keep in mind and I do not recall if it was an issue back then or not.
