Don't you mean the oldest part of the crust?
There seems to be a contradiction between this 2BnYr result and the idea that the late heavy bombardment (LHB) brought water to the planet about 4Bn years ago, as described in my link above. Are they claiming that the heating of the planet during LHB drove all the older water out and away from the earth forever?

EDIT: Didn't that process simply put a lot of water temporarily into the atmosphere, fromn where it would have recondensed at the end of the LHB?
