My understanding is this.
Total global heat as measured by oceanic expansion and deteriorating ice caps (as measured by NASA) gives rise to a deduction that the total heat energy on planet earth has increased recently. The theory is that increases in greenhouse gases is the explanation, in accordance with their properties. And so it is.
