As far as I understand (psychologists around here, please school me on this) symmetry is per se perceived as beautiful by the human mind. If this is true (which I'm not sure about), then it should be no surprise that mathematics have beautiful structures: after all, the concept of symmetry (in a very abstract way) is omnipresent in maths. I'm thinking of groups and such...
