Countries like UAE and Qatar are tiny countries with tiny populations but with more oil wealth than they know what to do with. They are also far from perfect in their own way, I'm sure.
I have been to Hong Kong and South Korea. Hong Kong has quite a lot of poverty, and South Korea has problems of its own. Shanghai no doubt is a fascinating city, but surely has massive problems of its own, as does all of the PRC.
I'm also having trouble making a connection between the thread title and the content of the OP.
