This thing seems to favor large movements to show the lock screen. Rolling it in my hand gently does nothing, until I move the phone to a better viewing position. It isn’t just touch sensitive, it’s trying to guess if you’re looking at it.
Wouldn’t it be fun to step through the coding for that?
