To be honest, I doubt it. The earliest gods we know of were either hermaphrodites or female and had mostly to do with fertility. They had no guiding role and didn't do anything other than present an illusion of motherly love or something like that. Most other old gods served the purpose of explaining functions. Lightning bolts? Zeus didn't get laid, obviously. Bad crops? Baal must be having a hard time.Concrete rulebooks weren't the norm until monotheism came about. I don't think religion is part of our biology. Our curiosity however is, and when you can't find evidence to support theories about the complex world around you I guess you'll have to be that one asshat that'll have to come up with something.
