I was reading a thread and decided to post my opinion, but it occurred to me that I should first introduce myself a bit.

I was born and raised Catholic, in the most whitebread suburban Christian middle class USonian home imaginable.

As a child I started having trouble with what I was being taught by the nuns at school. I knew enough math to know that 1+1+1 does not equal 1, ever. Then I got a Bible I could read for myself. :o That is when I found that Jesus Himself didn't believe in Trinitarianism. I quickly realized that I must be an atheist. I couldn't be a Protestant because then I would go to Hell.

I had no idea that Protestants believed this nonsense, too.

I no longer consider myself anything but Tom. I could be an atheist, a Christian, a Catholic, a deist, a Muslim, a Buddhist, or an agnostic, it depends on the question and the context. I don't find the labels all that useful myself. They always seem to come unstuck at inconvenient moments, leaving nothing but messy residue.
