Even if we agree this is an appopriate representation of Reagan's accomplishment, it remains an accomplishment, and an impressive one. To this day, significant numbers of Americans believe their personal financial problems are best solved by diverting wealth from the poor and middle class to the richest echelons of society. See the opposition to Obama's health plan, for instance.
