I certainly agree JFK is overrated. There might have been some earlier presidents that were more overrated, though.
The Soviets were putting missiles in Cuba in response to the U.S. putting missiles in Turkey. Ultimately, it was resolved by the U.S. withdrawing the missiles from Turkey, and the Soviets withdrawing missiles from Cuba. The public posturing on the part of both governments was window dressing for the public.
