Atheism is a taboo in Turkey, just like the weapon tradition in USA. Even every atheist keeps a little religious sentiment knowing that it will be functional in the future.
Because in the process we passed from religious state to a secular one founding fathers of the modern republic used religion heavily in order to suppress Islamists. Its something like cleaning blood with blood.
