I think that perhaps you'd find the boomer a.k.a. mountain beaver suitable. They're actually rather interesting varmints, apparently relatives of the squirrels.

Not just because they're considered living fossils among the rodents. Reading more about them, I guess it's rare to see one unfortunately. I'd have to deploy my new snake cam into a burrow.
