What exactly does this have to do with homophobia? There are homophobic homosexuals, which these could very well be, if they are in fact gay at all.
They could be feigning sexual interest in other men because it is considered the right thing to do in their culture in the same way that homosexuals in the west often pretend an attraction to females in order to fit in.
