He's not wrong, but he's also not quite right. It's not 'the Democrats' - it's how the entire process of democracy has evolved in the USA. Failing to score yourself 'corporate masters' makes you unelectable - it's a vicious cycle wherein the typical candidate that succeeds to attain high office has likely only attained that status by compromising the foundational principles of a representative democracy, no longer strictly representing those who elected them. Strings attached to the funds needed to compete in campaigning can rarely be proven, and it's not like anyone seems to care or expect otherwise - in that way, it's a lot like a typical Thai attitude to police corruption - it's just a fact of life and no one bats an eyelid.
No single person plotted for this horrible system to operate thus, but venal little men in their brief moments of bureaucratic or legislative power have stretched, pushed, pulled and looted as much as they could, and this has spiraled and compounded up until this dire contemporary situation - and absolutely nothing suggests it's going to get any better - democracies seem entirely enabling of systemic corruption as much as autocratic nations. Perhaps the one single qualification for holding power should be that the person has no desire whatsoever to hold power - stealth election, haha you were elected President, now you fucking solve all the shit! Not sure it could be much worse!
