No it's not a bad thing. Maybe it's a me thing, but I can't see being a senator as an easy or comfortable life. No matter what you do, someone is going to criticize it. Death threats. I'd rather clean toilets in a public restroom. Some people are like that - I'm getting to that age when you notice that the number of people who retire and are dead within a year is disproportionate, especially among those who are most "active". For some people, they live for doing the work they love.
(It's not necessarily a bad thing providing they enjoy it.)
