Maybe because she had committed one or more financial crimes? I think she, and Republicans Burr and Kelly Loefler from Georgia were reported to have responded to an early warning meeting about covid by moving stocks around instead of telling the public about the danger. I don't know why that never turned into a criminal investigation. Maybe the evidence was flimsy.
I'm not saying Feinstein committed a crime, just speculating on why a 90 year old who was a senator for decades didn't want to live out her final days in peace.

When some people get really old, they feel like they have to keep active, and keep doing what they've been doing. It helps them feel useful, and puts off facing mortality. Giving up what has been a huge part of one's life on account of old age means having to admit to oneself that the end is getting closer, and death is a scary proposition for most people.
