Gas heaters are installed outside in a ventilated space, they have to be a certain distance away from drains etc as well, as do the gas bottles. Mine is in an open laundry area outside the kitchen, it's main purpose is to supply the kitchen sink. It also has a feed to an outbuilding though, an old servant's quarters, where there is a shower and sink, so we have a backup bathroom any time there is no electricity. The gas bottle is outside the house completely.
