I made shelves on my porch the other day. I used all free scrap wood, yard sale hardware, a miter saw that I won at an auction for $18, a yard sale cordless drill for driving the screws, and a corded drill that I bought new in the early or mid 1990's. 
Edit- wait, the cordless drill came in a large pile of tools that I won at an auction all for $6. I was the only bidder.
