OK that's outside my experience, but I'd be careful going directly over plaster. I've used green board and an oil based water resistant primer the two times I did a plastic shower surround. I've done multiple bathrooms in tile, but that's a different animal.
That said, in the one rental house someone had put up a plastic shower surround directly over an old plaster and lathe wall and it was a stone bitch to get it off the walls. Ripped the plaster right off the lathe. They had used what looked like Liquid Nails construction adhesive.
