Good point zulumoose - especially considering microorganisms evolve at a relatively very fast rate due to their short life-cycles; as evinced by bacterial antibiotic resistance developing very recently largely since the work based on Sir Alexander Fleming's identification of the potential of penicillin was implemented.

Ernst Chain, Howard Florey and Edward Abraham succeeded in purifying the first penicillin, penicillin G, in 1942, but it did not become widely available outside the Allied military before 1945.
