Dawkins has always downplayed the origin of life. In the interview, he clearly lumped the origin with the diversity of life: DARWINISM EXPLAINS LIFE, PERIOD
That's interesting. Because in the comments I've heard him make about it, he didn't favor any one position. He even speculates that abiogenesis could have been such an unlikely event that there may not be another example to study within reach.He may be right. We'll probably have at least a slightly better idea in our lifetimes through exploring our solar system in more depth.
With the usual caveat, if we don't blow ourselves up first.
