"Well, you need to be open minded" (so I can cold read your facial gestures better) and "you need to be kind to people" (i.e., kindly credulous, like the dopey woman sitting next to me). 
Used to live in a neighborhood with a "psychic" - a hot little blond who made a decent living "reading" the local ladies (even saw one of my colleagues leaving her place). Had a column in a local newspaper. She read my aura at a party - apparently I had too much negativity for a proper reading.
The credulity of people often astounds me. But not too much.
