Most devotees thereof I'm in contact with know the distinction between fiction and fact. There'll always be a need for entertainment to keep us humans happy. Plus, the genres in question are frequently pressed into service as vehicles for social critique. A good example from the Stephen King stable is Dolores Claiborne.
