Yeah right... plot theorists will believe the silliest stuff. I also hear that Man on the Moon was a hoax. I'm sure Armstrong and Aldrin would have preferred it that way, when they went into the rocket, they knew they had about 50% chance of never coming back home.
I'm sure astronauts aren't risk averse and Armstrong and Aldrin would not have preferred to play a part in a safe hoax rather than take the risk to land on the Moon. They knew the risks and they were keen to go.
We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too
