I've been a scout myself till I was 16, after which due to disagreement with the strict nature of my particular group, I left.
Contrary to the BSA however, mine was a secular group. As many scouting groups in the Netherlands and probably Europe are.
No gods involved. We did have an oath that had to be recited from memory by one person each meeting, but it was about being honorable, respectful and being a teamplayer.
The cubs were based on jungle book and later years on the airforce, with troupes called 'flights' with flight leaders and assistant flight leaders.
