I suppose the general answer would be an ad-hoc list of characteristics which a certain person feels should be attributes of the category; thus, the problem lies with the person arguing that such a category exists. In apologetic arguments such as the one in this thread, it's generally the theist who proposes, as part of a No True Scotsman logical fallacy, that someone who has exhibited undesirable characteristics falls out of the category of "True Christian," and the usual refutation is to get the person to a) define a true Christian, and b) indicate whether he thinks he's a True Christian.
