As a nation we consider RE to be sufficiently important to make it compulsory in schools, but it has developed an unwanted reputation as a wishy-washy, “Mickey Mouse” subject, like citizenship or media studies.


So maybe the comparison should be to the funding provided to those other "Mickey Mouse" subjects, rather than demanding parity with math, science, etc.
