I think the church should be given a second chance. After all a mere 2000 years of religious-inspired pogroms, ingrained bigotry of every description, accumulation of wealth at the expense of the poor, and disproportionate influence in society and government is not a true test. Perhaps they have learned a lot, and next time they have absolute power they will use it wisely and with great kindness. They took a mere 1300 years to correct the little blooper about Mary M, and so I think it is a little small-minded to hold that against them for ever.
