People who need to keep saying "they are above it all" rarely are. After all, if they were genuinely "above it all" that would be obvious by the conduct and people would judge them accordingly.
It's a bit like someone repeatedly saying "I am intelligent" as if that were somehow persuasive proof of their intelligence.
