That would take some amazingly fast work on the part of the person planting the book.

In my experience, once the shoulders deliver, the rest of the baby comes out in a really quick spurt - I don't think there's any way you could get something into the hands, and have any noticeable time before the rest of the baby is delivered.

It's not like the little critters are pushing their way out arms-first, like a diver entering the water.
