I can't finding anything to definitively say what his religion was, but it's pretty clear that he was at the very least a practical agnostic - when the shit hit the fan, he knew the best course of action was to fight for his life, not to pray (AKA do nothing and hope really hard).
That's a really good one! I haven't heard it before.
