If it were me I'd stand up in the middle of the sermon and say, "I'm not listening to this shite. If you need me I'll be [insert work related activity]."
Sometimes you have to put the foot down. I never stand for any messing in work. I usually have my bosses half afraid to approach me
I'm not saying you should go that far. There is nothing unreasonable with refusing to put up with people's guff.
